Would you believe

I’ve been watching a bit of Get Smart lately. Someone needs to create an iPhone app along the lines of iDaft called iGetSmart where you hit a key and hear all those classic catchphrases – missed it by that much, sorry Chief, good thinking 99… If the app already exists, send me a link. If it doesn’t, then you should totally design it and send me royalties.

Today was flat out, hence the late post. I wish I could post a link to the website we sent live today because the design is awesome (even if I do say so myself) but the marketing agency who managed the job would be cross if their client found out we were the evil geniuses (geniusii?) responsible for making the magic happen.

As a tribute to the fact that this post comes to you courtesy of my iPhone, I’m planning to design a free wallpaper for you to download tomorrow for your phone or computer.

And loving it

the end of the week

Well we made it. This week was crazy! Packaging… done, Stationery and Corporate ID… done, Flyers… done, Websites… done, well almost. We’ll post some images of what we’ve been up to as soon as we can. Might be time for Friday night drinks soon, I really do think we need it this week.

Rain, Rain, Rain!

Aaaaahhhhh, finally that cool change has come through, some sweet relief. Our humble little Melbourne studio was starting to turn into a sweat box!

Fish and Chips

Why do all Aussie Hip Hop bands feel that they have to mention “fish and chips” in every song. I mean, I love fish and chips as much as the next guy, especially Hooked in Toorak Road, but what really rhymes with fish and chips? And what does it have to do with Graphic Design… Nothing really, although Hooked does have a fantastic shop and menus.

Sometimes even your co-workers think they can bust a rhyme in true Aussie Hip Hop style. There are people (one person in particular) in this studio that tries to rhyme “fish and chips” with everything. Maybe he could try rhyming it with Graphic Design! Although mentioning his skills might keep him happy in his hoodie on a Friday.

Keep inspired in melbourne

Even when you’re flat out you have to keep inspired. Take time out and just look at those little things that make you happy. Of course all things Design and Melbourne make us happy. There are some great small galleries in and around Melbourne that are an endless source of inspiration for us. Or even better, keep that camera permanently strapped to your hand and just shoot! You never know what you’re going to get, maybe a blog post or two.

Oh and there’s always food… man we love food! Good friends, good beer, good food, a trip to a gallery or two and we’re happy. Between the caffeine and alcohol we don’t seem to be painting a picture of health, here are we? : )

The week ahead

WOW what a week for us. So many things to do, websites, logos, stationery, posters, packaging…. Phew getting exhausted just thinking about it. Think of all the caffeine we documented for you last week, I’ve lost track of how much we have consumed already.
Somehow we managed to squeeze in creating our new facebook page, so for small snippets and bits, become our number one fan!
Look out Melbourne here we come!

Fight Clubesque

Fight Club is in my top-five all-time favourite movies. In my desperate scramble to find something to photograph for today’s post, our bin brought to mind Fight Club’s computer-generated fly through of the Starbuck’s Universe. Can you believe we were able to get our shot without employing a team of illustrators and animators?!

Since last time:
* a lets-get-things-going cappuccino
* a black tea (forgot the milk)

Hope you have a fun-filled weekend. We’ll be recharging our batteries enjoying a taste of original art and Melbourne’s best pizza in anticipation of another busy week ahead.

Playing up for the camera

When you decide to record your own behaviour, there is definitely a tendency to change what you would usually do. When this week in caffeine started on Monday, I was pretty sure there would be a Red Bull entry at some point. It would have been boring to see the same background image of a mug again and again. I’m not sure whether this little project has affected the amount of caffeine I have ingested, but aesthetic concerns seem to have influenced my choice of beverages. Gotta keep it interesting!

Since last time:
* a morning coffee (bet you didn’t see that coming)
* an ice cold Red Bull

Thinking about design

Since last time:
* a morning coffee (are you seeing a pattern here?)
* a bottle of V

Do you ever think about how much effort goes into designing things that we just throw away? Take this (empty) V bottle. A team of people worked together to determine what the brand promises, who the product is pitched at, what will attract the attention of potential customers, how other similar products are presented, ideas to make this brand stand out – all this and more, before concepts for a logo could even be presented. Decisions are made about the exact colour green to use, the shape of the bottle, how to brand the lid, the fonts for the product blurb and nutrition information, and so on and so on. Somebody has given thought to all the minute details that add up to the finished product.

Maybe there are people out there who collect V bottles. I just buy them for the contents. But long after the taste of V has been forgotten, perhaps people will find beauty in the things we throw away.

Since last time…

* one morning coffee brewed with love at home
* one cup of tea after battling peak hour
* one cappuccino courtesy of the lovely Miss Emma

Some days just disappear. Days like today.
